Sonia Gruber (né Conchi) studied social sciences specializing in market and advertising psychology at the University of Mannheim, graduated in May 2008. From 2008 to 2012 she worked as a project manager in market research at the Karlsruhe Institute for Market Research (KIM). Since 2012 she is researcher at the department Innovation and Knowledge Economy at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI.

Her research focuses on bibliometric research and analysis, with a particular emphasis on the development and application of quantitative indicators for evaluating academic output and its impact. She develops methods for processing and interpreting publication and citation data, and uses these for further analysis. In addition, she conduct network analyses to map patterns of collaboration, knowledge flows and research structures across disciplinary boundaries.
