Dr. Anna Billerbeck

Researcher

Dr. Anna Billerbeck has been working as researcher and project manager in the Business Unit Renewable Energies in the Department of Energy Policy and Energy Markets since June 2019. She works in national and international research and consulting projects on renewable energies, primarily for the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the European Commission.

Her research focuses on designing and analyzing energy system scenarios and transformation pathways. Additionally, her work focuses on energy market design, financing concepts, and social preferences within the context of the energy transition. Her methodological focus is on energy system modelling, socio-economic analysis, and the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of policy measures.

She studied industrial engineering in Mannheim and then energy economics in Darmstadt. During her studies, she interned at the Solar Valley cluster of excellence and the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML. In addition, she worked for two years as a working student at the independent metering point operator acteno energy GmbH. She wrote her master's thesis at the Fraunhofer ISI on »Analysis and evaluation of alternative premium models in auctions for the support of renewable energies in Germany«. In May 2024, she completed her doctorate on the topic of »District heating in a climate-neutral energy system - Modelling of transformation pathways and implications for policies« (Dr. phil.) at the University of Freiburg. During her doctoral studies, she spent two months working as a visiting researcher with the Energy Economics and Modelling Group at the Technical University of Denmark.
