Dr. Piret Fischer

Piret Kukk Fischer holds a Master’s degree in Molecular Diagnostics from the University of Tartu, Estonia, and a Master of Arts in European Studies on Science and Technology (ESST) from Maastricht University, the Netherlands. She received her PhD from Utrecht University with a thesis on how the pharmaceutical industry markets personalized cancer medicines, entitled “Complexities in building innovation systems: the case of radical medical technologies.”

She has gained research experience at University College London and the CIRCLE Research Institute at Lund University, and completed a traineeship at the European Commission, Directorate-General for Research. She also led the working group that prepared the “Estonian National Biotechnology Strategy” and later worked at EuropaBio, the European Association for Bioindustries, on regulatory affairs.

She is a researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI in Karlsruhe, Department of Emerging Technologies, where she serves as Senior Project Manager in the Business Units Innovations in the Healthcare Sector and Bioeconomy.
