LamA – Charging at Work: Installing charging infrastructure to improve air quality in cities
As part of its immediate action program “Clean Air 2017-2020”, the German government aims to improve the air quality in cities and advance the electrification of transport. The collaborative project “LamA – Charging at Work”, led by Fraunhofer IAO, focused on the targeted installation of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The plan was to install a total of 310 AC charging points (up to 22 kilowatts) and 28 DC charging points (up to 150 kilowatts) at 18 Fraunhofer sites. These charging points are to be made available to employees, guests and residents, and are located in cities where the limit value for nitrogen oxide was exceeded in 2017.
Fraunhofer ISI’s task was to analyze how the perception and acceptance of electric mobility develop in the local environment where charging infrastructure is installed, with a focus on employees and residents. In addition, the market ramp-up of electric vehicles in Germany, the resulting regional effects, and impacts on the energy system were analyzed. This was done taking into account the load management of electric vehicles and other regional flexibility options.
