Project

FULFILL - Fundamental Decarbonisation Through Sufficiency By Lifestyle Changes

The “FULFILL” project explores the influence that lifestyle changes and the commitment of ordinary citizens have on the decarbonisation of Europe and fulfilling the Paris Climate Agreement targets. FULFILL focuses on sufficiency. The project understands the application of the sufficiency principle as creating the social, infrastructural and regulatory conditions for changing individual and collective behaviour in a way that reduces energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to the well-being of society at the same time.

  1. To start with, the concept of lifestyle changes is characterized based on a review of the current literature and then extended by combining it with the concept of sufficiency.
  2. This is followed by developing a multidisciplinary systemic research approach that encompasses lifestyle changes at the micro, meso and macro levels.
  3. The main task is to analyse sufficiency lifestyles, their intended and unintended consequences (rebound and spillover effects), opportunities and obstacles, and impacts (e.g. on health when considering gender) at the micro and meso levels.
  4. Ultimately, FULFILL aims to provide a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the systemic impacts of sufficiency lifestyles, communication strategies and policy recommendations at the national and European levels.
