Dr. -Ing. Steffen Link

Researcher

Steffen Link has been working as a researcher in the Department of Energy Technologies and Energy Systems within the business unit Energy Economics since 2020.

His research focuses on the transport sector, in particular electrifying different modes of transport and charging infrastructure requirements, its integration into the energy system, and advances in battery technologies.

He studied industrial engineering with a specialization in automotive engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He subsequently earned his PhD at KIT’s Electrical Engineering Institute (ETI), where his dissertation, titled “Techno‑economic feasibility of battery‑electric trucks in Europe” explored battery system design and charging infrastructure requirements. In late 2025, he was a visting researcher with the Electric Vehicle Research Center at UC Davis in California (US). Since 2026, he has been a member of the steering committee of the Fraunhofer Battery Alliance.
