Electric cars purchased and used in Germany today have a much better carbon footprint than diesel or gasoline-powered cars

Up to 28 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than a top-range diesel; up to 42 percent fewer than a small gasoline car: Whoever buys and uses a battery-powered electric car in Germany today emits much less CO2 and other greenhouse gases over an average useful life of 13 years than a car with a conventional internal combustion engine. This is the result of a study by Fraunhofer ISI on the carbon footprint of electric cars.

Pioneering research on 2050 energy savings potentials

A new study by the Fraunhofer Institute for System and Innovation Research ISI, commissioned by the Coalition for Energy Savings, finds that tapping all available cost-effective savings potentials across sectors could halve the EU’s energy demand by 2050 and provides new insights in how societal trends - such as digitalisation, new economic and social models, the transition to a circular and decarbonised economy and a new quality of life - could further enhance those potentials.

The scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI annually publish more than 200 publications including research reports, books, working papers and scientific articles which together cover the broad spectrum of ISI's research. Every month, the latest Fraunhofer ISI specialist publications will be updated in an institute-wide list.
