Successful cooperation between Fraunhofer ISI and the Chinese Academy of Sciences continues
For more than ten years, the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI and the institutes of Science and Development (CASISD) at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Beijing have been working closely together. In joint cooperation projects and academic exchanges, both partners deal with issues from the areas innovation research, renewable energies, water infrastructures, urban transport systems and technology transfer. Fraunhofer ISI and CASISD have now agreed to renew their cooperation.
Fraunhofer ISI and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) have been collaborating successfully for more than a decade and this cooperation will be continued in the future. In the headquarters of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in Munich the Director of the CAS Institutes of Science and Development (CASISD), Professor Pan Jiaofeng, and the Deputy Director of Fraunhofer ISI, Dr. Harald Hiessl signed the contract to renew the current cooperation. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Marion A. Weissenberger-Eibl, Director of Fraunhofer ISI, emphasizes the opportunities for both sides which are a result of the joint research cooperation, “The 'Alliance for Innovation Research' provides Fraunhofer ISI with important insights into the Chinese innovation system and the Chinese market which benefit the clients and research partners of Fraunhofer ISI and the entire Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. On the other hand CASISD benefits from the Fraunhofer know how in the area of innovation systems research as well as technology development. It is a win-win situation for both sides in the form of further joint research activities on important Sino-German future issues.“
The ceremony to mark the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between Fraunhofer ISI and the CAS Institutes of Science and Development was accompanied by several lectures. Professor Alexander Kurz, Vice President Human Resources, Legal Affairs and IP Management at Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, and Liu Weiping, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, both emphasized in their introductory keynote speeches the great significance of both institutions for the national and international research and innovation landscape. Dr. Harald Hiessl of Fraunhofer ISI stressed in his address the importance of evidence-based evaluations and analyses for strategic consultation of decision makers in politics, industry and science. Professor Pan Jiaofeng, Director of the newly founded CAS Institutes of Science and Development (CASISD), presented them in his lecture “Think-Tank Construction of CAS“.
