The main objective of the project is to conduct a thorough analysis of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) ecosystem in the Aachen region.
Background
The economic development department of the city of Aachen pursues the overarching goal of creating structurally effective framework conditions for local companies active in the field of AI. In order to support a targeted funding strategy, the AI players in the Aachen region and the AI ecosystem in which they operate are being analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Based on these analyses, the project team is developing recommendations for action to strengthen Aachen as an AI location.
Methodology
Based on a definition of AI-related keywords, the actors and activities in the AI ecosystem in the Aachen region are identified. Patent, publication, project, job, and company data are quantitatively evaluated using various key figures. In addition, the key figures collected are compared with other regions in a benchmarking exercise, thereby identifying location-specific potential.
This analysis of the AI ecosystem is supported by qualitative findings from expert interviews with AI stakeholders in the region.
This combined approach provides a comprehensive picture of Aachen as an AI location, identifies strengths and weaknesses, and derives recommendations for action.
