Researcher
Thorben Strähle has been working as a research assistant and doctoral candidate in the Department of Regional Transformation and Innovation Policy since 2023. His research focuses on structural change, regional innovation policy, and the interaction between actors and institutions. As part of his doctoral research, he examines innovation-oriented structural change from an agency perspective. In addition, he works on evaluations of international, national, and regional policy programs in the field of research and innovation policy. In his research and evaluation projects, he applies empirical methods such as literature reviews, interviews, case studies, online surveys, and focus groups.
Before joining Fraunhofer, Thorben Strähle worked in the evaluation division of an international policy consulting firm and also gained practical experience at the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), in management consulting, and in the automotive industry. After earning a bachelor’s degree in International Business (Maastricht University), he completed a dual master’s degree in Political Science (Sciences Po) and Business & Management (Stockholm School of Economics).
