The economic importance of quality infrastructure ("QI Impact") incl. trend analysis QI and digitalization

The quality infrastructure (QI) is a system of different institutions and processes based on standardization, conformity assessment, accreditation, metrology, but meanwhile also market surveillance. Basically, impact research on QI faces the challenge that, in addition to the lack of an overall conceptual model, data availability is limited and certain impact dimensions of QI can at least not be directly mapped with data.

In this study, the impact dimensions of QI and its individual components, in particular with regard to gross value added, economic growth, foreign trade, innovation and other aspects, will be conceptually captured and quantified. Sector-specific characteristics will be taken into account. The possibilities of the rapidly advancing digitization for the QI and its individual components will be presented and evaluated within the framework of a scenario approach.
