Luna Lütz

Luna Lütz has been a research associate in the Climate-Neutral Industry business unit of the Department Energy Technologies and Energy Systems at Fraunhofer ISI since July 2024. Her doctoral research focuses on the ramp-up of the European CO₂ transport infrastructure. Beyond this, her work spans CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage) more broadly, the electrification of industrial process heat and the decarbonisation of industry as a whole. Throughout, her particular focus lies on modelling the underlying interdependencies, primarily using optimisation models.

She is pursuing her doctorate in cooperation with TU Berlin at the chair of Prof. Dr. Tom Brown.

She studied Mechanical Engineering with a specialisation in Energy Technology (B.Sc./M.Sc.) at RWTH Aachen University. During her studies and while writing her theses, she worked at the Institute of Climate and Energy Systems – Jülich Systems Analysis (ICE-2) at Forschungszentrum Jülich. There, she conducted research on the expansion potential of renewable energies, the global hydrogen process chain and negative emissions. Her master's thesis, entitled "Mind the Gap – the Global Demand for Negative Emissions" within the DACStorE project, determined the negative emissions required to meet various warming thresholds.
