Researcher
Ellen Österlein has been working as a researcher in the Business Unit Renewable Energies in the Department of Energy Policy and Energy Markets since 2024. The focus of her work is hydrogen and its derivatives, as well as their imports and resilient value chains.
She studied Management and Economics (B.Sc.) at the University of Mainz and Management Science with a focus on Energy Management and Sustainability (M.Sc.) at the University of Leipzig with a semester abroad at the Università degli Studi di Siena (IT). Her master’s thesis focused on the heterogeneity of heat supply in selected municipalities in Saxony (title of the thesis: 'Geodata based analysis of heating system heterogeneity and transition opportunities'). Ellen Österlein's dissertation focuses on analysing and designing resilient value chains for the supply of renewable ammonia and methanol
During her studies she worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Infrastructure and Resource Management at the University of Leipzig, at the German Energy Agency (dena) in the field of hydrogen and synthetic energy carrier and at ECC in clearing for EEX.
