Dr. Johannes Eckstein

Researcher

Johannes Eckstein is senior researcher in the business unit Climate Policy in the Competence Center Energy Policy and Energy Markets. In his work, he focusses on the link of climate policy and industry, particularly on innovative funding instruments such as the EU Innovation Fund or Carbon Contracts for Difference. Energy system modelling and related policy questions are a second building block of his expertise, e.g. on the relevance of hydrogen for decarbonization. Next to studies with EU coverage, geographic focus areas are the Western Balkan countries and Southeast Asia. He leads and works in projects related to the international, EU or national context.

He studied meteorology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology with an exchange year at Istanbul Technical University. He was scientific associate at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, with a focus on climate modelling, completing his Ph.D. on atmospheric trace gases and water isotopes in 2017. In 2019, he joined the business unit Climate Policy at Fraunhofer ISI.
