Project

Development of scientific basis for a German Eco-Innovation Action Plan (Eco-AP)

Reaching ambitious environmental targets requires to spur innovations which reduce environmental pressure. The transition to a resource-efficient, low-carbon economy is a central pillar of the Europe 2020 Strategy. One of the 7 flagship initiatives in the 2020 Strategy is the Innovation Union. The EU launched the European Eco-innovation Action Plan (Eco-AP) in 2011. Eco-AP will work with the Innovation Union to target specific eco-innovation barriers and opportunities. The German Government decided in 2013 to work towards a German eco-innovation plan as national contribution to EU Eco-AP.

Eco-AP is intended to provide the German Government with a scientific basis for setting up the national Eco-innovation Action Plan. The following steps are part of the work program:

  • analysis of existing policy measures,
  • strengths and weaknesses of eco-innovation actions,
  • identification of additional policy options.
