EIT Raw Materials Summit 2019

Dr. Luis Tercero Espinoza, Coordinator of the Business Unit Systemic Risks at Fraunhofer ISI, will participate in the Raw Materials Summit 2019. This flagship event organised by the EIT RawMaterials, will take place on 20-22 May in Berlin.

His keynote ist called “Raw Materials markets between complexity and actual data“. He speaks on Wednesday, May 22, between 14:30 and 15:30 together with Rene Kleijn (Leiden University) who adds the topic “Metal demand for renewable electricity Generation in the Netherlands; navigating a complex supply chain“.

Their talk starts with a global view of raw material markets and the factors determining supply and demand for raw materials. Since there is no equation of state for raw material markets, they then dive into two separate attempts at characterization: dynamic stock and flow modelling and quantitative scenarios for future demand for certain raw materials with a focus on electrified moblity. They conclude with implications for recycling and the contribution of secondary raw materials to overall supply.

EIT RawMaterials, initiated and funded by the EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology), a body of the European Union, is the largest consortium in the raw materials sector worldwide. It unites more than 120 core and associate partners and over 190 project partners from leading industries, universities, research and technology organizations from more than 20 EU countries.

The summit will gather experts from Europe and the rest of the world to discuss innovation and new technologies covering the entire raw materials value chain. Most relevant topics in the raw materials sector will be addressed such as strategies concerning supply and access of raw materials, European industrial competitiveness and innovation capacity as well as entrepreneurship and innovation in education.
