Project

The aim of this project is to develop a better understanding of metropolitan, inter- and trans-regional collaboration in Germany and Europe by compiling information on public and non-governmental models of metropolitan, inter- and trans-regional collaboration in Germany and other European countries, by summarizing their development and by assessing their socio-economic impact. On that basis, the project contributes to our Chinese partner's (BJSS) efforts to develop a roadmap for the planned Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei collaborative innovation community, and to support the drafting of an official development strategy for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei metropolitan area.

In detail, the project analyses:

1. The set-up and operational mechanisms of public or non-government organizations for metropolitan, inter- and trans-regional collaboration,
2. The activities performed by German and European Union policy makers to promote metropolitan, inter- and trans-regional collaboration,
3. The activities performed by non-government organizations to promote metropolitan, inter- and trans-regional collaboration,
4. The problems and solutions that emerge in the process of metropolitan, inter- and trans-regional collaboration in Germany and European Union,
5. Socioeconomic impacts and outcomes of metropolitan, inter- and trans-regional collaboration in Germany and the European Union.
