Bastian Zachmann studied mechatronics / energy economics (B. Eng.) at Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) Mannheim in cooperation with Netze BW GmbH and engineering and management (M. Sc.) at Mannheim University of Applied Sciences. In his studies, he focussed on renewable energies, energy trading, energy management and energy engineering as part of a specialization in energy technologies and energy management.

He worked from 2017 to 2019 as referent in the department Corporate Development, Strategy & Energy Economics of EnBW AG and from 2020 to 2022 as research associate in the Kopernikus-project SynErgie at Mannheim University of Applied Sciences. Since October 2022, he has been a research associate at the Competence Center Energy Policy and Energy Markets at Fraunhofer ISI.
