Dr. Benjamin Pfluger

Benjamin Pfluger worked as research associate and project manager at Fraunhofer ISI in the Competence Center Energy Policy and Energy Markets from 2008 to 2020. He studied industrial engineering at the University of Karlsruhe and the Lappeenranta University of Technology. In his diploma thesis he dealt with the modelling of energy systems with an increasing share of renewable energies. Subsequently, he received his doctorate in the same field as an external doctoral candidate at KIT; the title of his thesis is "Assessment of least-cost pathways for decarbonising Europe's power supply". During his time at Fraunhofer ISI, he participated in or headed numerous projects in the field of energy system modelling and policy consulting, including the long-term scenarios for the German Federal Ministry of Economics. In May 2020, he joined to the newly founded Fraunhofer Institution for Energy Infrastructures and Geothermal Energy, where he heads the research group "Analysis of Coupled Energy Infrastructures", which is operated jointly with Fraunhofer ISI.
