Dr. Christoph P. Kiefer

Senior Researcher

Dr. Christoph P. Kiefer is currently senior researcher at Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI). From 2017 to 2020, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Environmental Economics Group, Institute of Public Goods and Policies of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid, Spain, and a university lecturer for the subjects Environmental Economics and Econometrics at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). Prior to that, he held an innovation manager position at a private company (Herrenknecht AG).

Dr. Kiefer's research areas and interest comprise the economic analysis of innovation and sustainability, specifically focused on eco-innovation in firms, the circular economy, renewable energy and energy transitions in integrated energy systems. In that context, he has participated in two Horizon 2020 projects on the market uptake of solar thermal electricity (MUSTEC) and auctions for renewable energy support (AURES II), two projects by the European Commission (DG ENER) on renewable energy in the heating sector, as well as a project on energy systems modelling by the German Government (Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection). Additionally, he participated in a transdisciplinary platform regarding Circular Economy within CSIC and is a member of the research group of complex systems in social sciences (SCCS) applied to sustainable cities.

Dr. Kiefer gained his PhD in economics in 2017 from the University of Alcalá. Previously, he studied both at the University of Alcalá, Spain, and the University of Mannheim, Germany.
