How will we live in the bioeconomy of the future?

How and where will we live, what will we eat in the future in an economy no longer based on fossil resources? Experts from industry and research discussed this with young people at the second BioKompass future dialog on 18 September in Senckenberg Natural History Museum in Frankfurt. The results were captured as BioKompass future visions that describe possible variants of daily life in a bioeconomy in 2040.

Medium-term forecast: Falling demand for electricity, rising electricity self-sufficiency

The Fraunhofer ISI has projected the nationwide electricity consumption in Germany for the years 2019 to 2023 within the scope of the EEG medium-term forecast, and analyzed the EEG surcharge payments. Fraunhofer ISI identified a moderate rise in electricity self-sufficiency, among other things. The study is a key reference for the development of distributed electricity self-sufficiency in Germany.

Prof. Jakob Edler joins the management team of the Fraunhofer ISI

The Fraunhofer ISI is expanding its management team with the appointment of Prof. Jakob Edler. As a professor of innovation policy and strategy he has in recent years led the prestigious Manchester Institute of Innovation Research. Prof. Edler will join Prof. Marion Weissenberger-Eibl and Prof. Mario Ragwitz on the Fraunhofer ISI management team, contributing his expertise in the governance and policy of international research and innovation initiatives.

Project “HotMaps“

A new heating and cooling dataset available for the EU-28. The data has been compiled by a group of experts from the Italian EURAC, the Energy Economics Group of TU Wien and the German Fraunhofer ISI in the framework of “HotMaps“, a project funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. It will fill current gaps in H&C data for the residential, service, industry and transport sectors.

RRI article in the Science magazine

The latest article in Science magazine, written among others from researchers of Fraunhofer ISI, deals with Europe's plans and support for responsible science in the context of the Horizon Europe research program. Scientists from Aarhus University, INGENIO (CSIC-UPV), the Vienna Institute for Advanced Studies, Technopolis Group Belgium, the Centre for Science and Technology Studies, Leiden University and the University College London are also involved. 


The scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI annually publish more than 200 publications including research reports, books, working papers and scientific articles which together cover the broad spectrum of ISI's research. Every month, the latest Fraunhofer ISI specialist publications will be updated in an institute-wide list.
