Hydrogen fuel cell technologies like micro CHP, hydrogen-based emergency/back-up or prime power supply systems and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles are alternative low-carbon technologies that can generate heat and electricity or replace fossil fuel-based drive systems. This is why the government is supporting the commercialization of these technologies. However, it is becoming increasingly clear that the success of such innovative energy technologies not only depends on their technical characteristics but is equally dependent on the acceptance and support in their social, political and economic environment. So far, there are no comprehensive cross-national comparisons available on this topic for hydrogen fuel cell technologies. Given this background, the project studies their acceptance in the population and society in seven European countries. The results also lead to the development of a tool box for practitioners.
