Experience

Following his vocational training as an energy electrician (EnBW), he studied Industrial Engineering at the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) (German Diplom/Master of Science) with time abroad in Michigan/USA for practical training. His dissertation at KIT was on Energy Economics. Rainer Elsland has been working at Fraunhofer ISI as a scientific researcher/project coordinator since 2010, first in the Competence Center Energy Policy and Energy Systems, and from 2012 in the Competence Center Energy Technology and Energy Systems. Since 2012 he has held teaching positions at the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, the University of Koblenz-Landau and the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (Dualen Hochschule Baden-Württemberg) in Lörrach. At the same time as working at Fraunhofer ISI, he took on the position of professor at the Wilhelm Büchner University of Applied Sciences. He is also a member of the VDI (Association of German Engineers) Technical Division Strategic Energy and Environmental Tasks of the VDI Society Energy and Environment (VDI-GEU).
