Energy efficiency is becoming increasingly important, due to high energy prices and climate change. Therefore, the Business Unit Energy Efficiency analyzes techniques and measures to raise energy efficiency and develops appropriate strategies for enterprises and politics. Coordinator of the Business Unit is Dr. Clemens Rohde.

A safe, economical and environmentally compatible energy supply needs sustainable supply systems. In the Business Unit Energy Economy market analyses for technologies and services are conducted, new energy sources in transport assessed and energy-efficiency system analyses carried out. Coordinator of the Business Unit is Professor Martin Wietschel.

The planning of a sustainable energy system requires detailed analyses of the demand developments to be expected in the future and the potentials of demand-side efficiency strategies, which are a key to achieving climate protection and supply security (goals. In the Business Unit Demand Analyses and Projections technology-based models are developed and used for contract research from industry and politics. The Coordinator of the Business Unit is Dr. Tobias Fleiter.

The transformation of the energy system towards renewable energies and decentralised supply structures requires that the energy system has to become more intelligent and flexible in future. The innovations arising in this context are the subject of the Business Unit Demand Response and Smart Grids. It investigates the intelligent management of flexibility options with the aid of ICT technologies across different divisions. Coordinator of the Business Unit is Dr. Marian Klobasa.
