Werdegang

Mario Ragwitz ist promovierter Physiker mit Berufserfahrung auf den Gebieten der Modellierung komplexer dynamischer Systeme, der techno-ökonomischen Analyse von Energiesystemen und im Bereich Energie- und Klimapolitik mit dem Schwerpunkt auf erneuerbare Energien. Physik-Studium an den Universitäten Düsseldorf, Waterloo (Kanada) und Heidelberg, und Promotion in Theoretischer Physik (Dr. rer. nat.) an der Universität Wuppertal (2001). Er arbeitete als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Max-Planck Institut für Physik komplexer Systeme (1998- 2002). Er war Gastwissenschaftler an der Universität Texas in Austin (2000) und am Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (2007 und 2011). Seit September 2002 wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter und Projektleiter am Fraunhofer ISI, seit Januar 2008 Leiter des Geschäftsfeldes Erneuerbare Energien und seit Januar 2012 stellvertretender Leiter des Competence Centers Energiepolitik und Energiemärkte. Seit 2014 Honorarprofessur an der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Fakultät für Umwelt und Natürliche Ressourcen.

Arbeitsschwerpunkte

Seine gegenwärtige wissenschaftliche Arbeit umfasst Fragestellungen der Innovationsforschung, der Policy Analyse und der Finanzierung im Bereich der erneuerbaren Energien, die Ableitung von FuE- und Markteinführungsstrategien für erneuerbare Energietechnologien und die Modellierung von Energiesystemen mit erneuerbaren Energieträgern. Zu seinen Aufgaben gehörten insbesondere die Ableitung der EU-Ziele im Bereich der erneuerbaren Energien für das Jahr 2020 sowie die Entwicklung und Evaluierung der EU-Richtlinien für erneuerbare Energien sowie des Erneuerbare Energien Gesetzes in Deutschland. Er ist Projektkoordinator zahlreicher internationaler und nationaler Studien zu Erneuerbaren Energien und zum Klimaschutz .
Neben der deutschen Bundesregierung berät er die Europäische Kommission, den deutschen Bundestag, das EU Parlament, die Weltbank, andere nationale Regierungen und Unternehmen.
