In an upcoming project, the Beijing Research Centre for Science of Science (BRCSS) under the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology will investigate the demand for technology transfer in the Bohai Bay Area, China. In this study it will be supported by Fraunhofer ISI and provided with complementary information from Germany.

Tasks of Fraunhofer ISI / Work Packages (WP)

WP X: General Interaction and Communication

WP 1: Theoretical Section/Conceptual Study

The theoretical/conceptual chapter of the report will be drafted by BJAST/BRCSS in the first two months of the project. Fraunhofer ISI will comment on the first draft and make BJAST/BRCSS researchers aware of additional literature.

WP 2: Design of Empirical Study

Fraunhofer ISI will support BJAST/BRCSS in the development of an empirical survey, covering about 50 Chinese firms and 10 multinational corporations in Beijing and conduct a complementary survey covering about 20 companies in Germany. For the purpose of the study, Fraunhofer ISI will design a 2-3 page structured questionnaire in English and German based on European standards. Meanwhile, Fraunhofer ISI will provide additional documentation to help BRCSS to develop a better understanding of the questionnaire. BRCSS will translate the questionnaire into Chinese and comment on it. Subsequently, one or two workshops will be organised by BJAST/BRCSS in Beijing.

WP 3: Design of Empirical Study

The survey of German firms will either be carried out based on paper questionnaires or online. Fraunhofer ISI will ensure that at least 20 fully answered questionnaires will be returned and analysed for the project. The Chinese part of the survey should be completed by the end of August 2012 at the latest. Based on the data collected in the course of the empirical survey, Fraunhofer ISI will draft a brief analytical report of about 15 pages. At this stage of the project, two researchers from BJAST/BRCSS will come to Karlsruhe to discuss the analytical report with researchers from Fraunhofer ISI.

Final Report

At the end of the project, researchers from BJAST/BRCSS will prepare the final report in Chinese. The report will not be translated into English and not be further discussed.

WP 4: Presentation & Discussion in China

In late 2012 or early 2013, two researchers from Fraunhofer ISI will give a presentation of the survey results in Beijing.
