The workshop is the last one in a row of three, where, based on the results of our previous workshops, we aim at formulating scenarios for the future of the European Research Area in 2030. In our previous workshops we have identified key drivers expected to shape the future ERA, and we explored possible evolutions of and relationships between these key drivers.
The event is part of the Forward Visions on the European Research Area (VERA) project (www.eravisions.eu) which aims to provide relevant strategic intelligence for the future governance and priority-setting of the research, technology, development and innovation system in Europe. VERA is funded under the FP7 Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities programme from DG Research and Innovation.
The workshop will be held on the 12th of July 2013 in Karlsruhe.
The purpose of the Scenario workshop is to flesh out raw scenarios, i.e. to develop (pieces of) storylines illustrating possible evolutions until 2030. The workshop shall gather fresh and challenging perspectives beyond the mainstream discourse.
In the workshop, participants will flesh-out and validate the raw scenarios in group work with the focus on developing narratives for the interdependencies among the individual elements of the scenarios. Participants are asked to bring in their expertise, experience and perspective and engage in group discussions in order to inspire and illustrate the scenarios. Additionally, a break-out group will create a vision for the ERA in 2050. In the end, we will discuss the full picture and first, spontaneous impressions and implications. The resulting scenarios will be discussed in strategy dialogues with policy-makers and different stakeholder groups, and will be made publicly available.
