Studied political science and economics at the University of Augsburg and at the University of British Columbia; PhD-thesis in political science at the University of Augsburg about internet-based communication strategies of intermediary organisations in North America. The dissertation was funded by the German National Academic Foundation and received the University of Augsburg Award in 2006.
