Project

Foresight on Demand ”Soil health and food”

The European Commission's Mission Board for Soil Health and Food will be supported with foresight knowledge in identifying missions within the broader topic of soil health and nutrition.

The aim of the project is on the one hand to discuss the relevance of the topic “Soil Health and Nutrition“ for future research and to identify the main factors behind the increasing attention of the international community to the future of soil health. It will cover global phenomena such as climate change or increasing demand for food as well as more specific trends affecting soil health.

A targeted literature review, in which the future of soil health and soil management is discussed, was the first step in the project. The main objective of the review is to identify and assess both consolidated trends and drivers as well as other peripheral phenomena that are likely to have a significant impact on the future of soil health.

These results will be summarized in a scoping report, which served as the main input for a workshop with the Mission Board.

An expert consultation to deepen the investigation on consolidated and emerging drivers, trends and soil practices will be conducted as a final step. The results will be presented in a report to inform the Mission Board's strategy.
